I was running along the 3k running/bike path the other day, and started wondering why running races has gotten so expensive (marathon here was $50). Closing down streets, hiring pollice, organizer profit, etc. Why not expand the current running path to 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, marathon. and have most races run along it, a portion of the entry fees could go toward up keep, and people would have a better place to train for ...more »

Rockford should celebrate the fact that Washington is ranked 5th out of 1913 Illinois elementary schools, and should model all other schools after it as much as possible (it's not done with less students per teacher, or a brand new building). We should also translate #5 in Illinois into an accurate national figure. Very impressive accomplishment overlooked by many.

I moved to Rockford from Chicago, travel there frequently for business, and live in downtown Rockford, so it's easy for me to view the city with "fresh eyes". When I consider the average person coming to Rockford for a volleyball tournament, or anything else downtown, the odds are "due to population" they will be coming from Chicago, and therefore will approach via State Street, not the 20, to Main steet wrap around, ...more »
I was discussing the idea of Rockford becoming a top 25 destination with friends, and we agreed that something way outside the box will be necessary to compete with Mountains, Oceans, lakes, Blues festivals, etc... Today, as I was reflecting on our conversation the idea of Rockford obtaining some sort of significant retired aircraft, space shuttle, or maybe even a submarine or Navy ship in the Rock river occured to me, ...more »
I would LOVE to see the old Midway Theater downtown revitalized! Much like the Cornado, there is so much history there and we would be foolish not to preserve that! I think we could do a Kickstarter campaign to help raise money. It would be great if the theater could be turned into a movie theater - it could show old movies or movies that have been in the theaters for a while already - like the second run of the given ...more »

We just visited The City Museum in St. Louis, and found it to be the most amazing place we have ever taken our 10 and 8 year old daughters. It is an old shoe factory in dowtown St. Loius that has been converted into lofts, apartment and a museum with the most amazing and interactive exhibits we have ever seen www.citymuseum.org. Obviously the Missouri liability climate is much more user friendly than our nanny state, ...more »
